The ESP Viper is probably one of the most underrated guitars in today’s market. The sound that
this guitar delivers is truly remarkable. ESP is known for making guitars for various big named artists such as
Kirk Hammett from Metallica or Alex Laiho from Children of Bodom. With these big names on board, ESP has the
help of many musicians who know what they are talking about when it comes to tone.
The ESP Viper is equipped with 81 and 85 EMG active
humbucker pickups. This is what gives this guitar such a unique sound. Most guitars are sold with passive
pickups which deliver a deeper, thicker tone. The active EMG pickups which arrive as stock pickups on the
Viper are truly amazing. The main difference between active and passive pickups is that active pickups take
in more of the tone with less noise feedback. Active pickups are pre-amplified and require a battery, which
makes the sound a lot louder and clearer. This really helps out when pinch harmonics are used. The tone is
extra clear yet very crunchy and fuzzy. The combination of a crunchy and bright tone makes these pickups one
of the main reasons why this guitar is an amazing product.

The ESP Viper has a very unique sound experienced when
playing it’s strings. The fingerboard is made from ebony with 24 frets allowing access to two extra frets for
more soloing options. The controls are pretty simple which consist of a master volume knob, a master tone
knob and a three way selector switch. The color variety is not very big however the colors available are
pretty neat and not usual on other models. I really love the fact that this guitar is a hard tail without a
whammy bar. I personally am not a big whammy bar fan and have always found that it gets in the way. Also
floating bridges tend to get out of tune quite easily; this guitar will stay in tune for weeks without a
doubt. The price of this guitar is very reasonable for the much underrated quality delivered. I highly
recommend this guitar to any guitarist of any style; it allows a lot of versatility which is great for pretty
much any genre of music.
