As a ‘’metal-head,’’ I wanted a guitar that looked tough and sounded heavy. The B.C. Rich
Mockingbird had these features nailed. The dark black finish on the body and the unusual body edges give this
guitar a dangerous look to it. When picking up this guitar, you know it’s going to last a lifetime. With a heavy
mahogany body and a thick neck, the B.C. Rich Mockingbird is only for those who can handle a true heavy metal
experience.
The big B.C. Rich Mockingbird headstock really adds to its indestructible
appearance. It has a chunkier feel to it however not everyone may enjoy the weight of the guitar beast. The
weight and heaviness of the guitar itself really has a big impact on the tone. With dual vintage humbucker
pickups, this axe sounds deep and dark. This kind of tone however can only be used in specific genres of
music such as heavy metal or hard rock. It does have a few downsides, the heavy weight being one of them.
Another downside is the muddy sound, even though it sounds great for heavy metal, it still has an unclean
tone. This mainly affects rapid solos or sweeping because when it comes to rhythm such as power chords, the
B.C. Rich Mockingbird really delivers.

When I think of the B.C. Rich Mockingbird’s tone, I immediately think of
Black Sabbath. It has very dark distorted strumming tone which reminds me of some classic Sabbath tones like
the sound in ‘’Paranoid.’’
This is an amazing guitar perfect for live performances or studio usage.
The long fret board features 24 jumbo frets allowing easier access to the final frets. The curves in the body
are also a great advantage when trying to reach to last frets. One of my favourite features about this guitar
is the ability to have different volume settings for each pickup, allowing you to play a normal volume rhythm
with a louder lead. There have been many different models available throughout the years but B.C. Rich has
always stayed true to the vintage model. The B.C. Rich Mockingbird first saw the light of day in 1976 making
this axe a true classic.
